List of Wisconsin Piping Plovers Released at Illinois Beach State Park -South (IBSP) and status

Several Wisconsin Piping Plovers were released on a restricted access portion of IBSP on 7/24/20 due to an outbreak of botulism at their nesting location in Wisconsin. Birders and Piping Plover monitors are asked to report any Piping Plover sightings and the specific of their bands, so that we can track the status of these WI Piping Plovers. Detailed and timely reporting to ebird is OK, or report to Dawn Fronk for Waukegan Beach or Tamima Itani for all other beaches.

Adult male: O (G dot),V : X,-  “Vinnie” [Orange band with a green dot on the upper left leg, Violet/purple band on the lower left leg, silver band on the upper right leg, no band on the lower leg]. Status: Last seen at IBSP restricted access site on Saturday 7/25/20 in the evening.

Nest 1 chick: X,G (333) : O (Y dot),- "“Traveler” [Silver band on upper left leg, Green band on lower left leg with number 333, orange band on upper right leg with yellow dot, no band on lower right leg]. Status: Last seen at Waukegan Beach on 8/3/20.

Nest 2 chick: X,G/O : O (R dot),G (343) “RoadRunner” [Silver band on upper left leg, Green and orange band on lower left leg, orange band on upper right leg with red dot, green band on lower right leg with number 343]. Status: Last seen at Waukegan Beach on 8/10/20.

Nest 3 chick #1: X,G (362) :  -,O (Y dot) "“Uno” [Silver band on upper left leg, Green band on lower left leg with number 362, no band on upper right leg , no orange band on lower right leg with yellow dot] Status: Last seen at Waukegan beach on 8/2/20. Right foot injured (see photos below). Limping. Moves around, feeds, flies. Notify Dawn Fronk if chick seems to be lethargic. AUGUST 10 UPDATE - A Piping Plover fitting the band scheme of this Piping Plover was sighted today and photographed at McKinley Park in Milwaukey, and looked to be walking fine and doing well.

Nest 3 chick #2 X,G (360) : -,O (B dot) [Silver band on upper left leg, Green band on lower left leg with number 360, no band on upper right leg, orange band on lower right leg with blue dot] Status: Last seen at Waukegan Beach on 8/2/20 with nest mate Nest 3 chick #1. 

An additional Fledgling Plover was released at IBSP restricted access beach on 7/31/20:

Nest 4 chick X,O (Ydot) : -,G (365) [Silver band on upper left leg, Orange band on lower left leg with yellow dot, no band on upper right leg, Green band on lower right lef with number 365]. Status: Seen at Waukegan Beach on 8/10/20.
